European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) 2025

  • The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) published the “Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report by Country” using the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR):
    Global greenhouse gas emissions in 2024 (excluding LULUCF) reached 53.2 Gt CO₂e, a 30% increase from 2005 and a 1.3% increase from 2023.
  • The report indicates that Taiwan’s 2024 greenhouse gas emissions decreased 9.6% compared to 2005 and 0.3% compared to 2023.

The report compiles greenhouse gas emissions data from 210 countries around the world:

  • In 2024, greenhouse gas emissions in Taiwan, Japan, and the U.S. decreased compared to 2005; greenhouse gas emissions in India, China, Brazil, and Singapore were more than doubled.
  • Ranked by greenhouse gas emissions growth among the 210 countries, Taiwan is 49th.

Global Carbon Project announced the “2024 Global Carbon Budget” report on Nov. 2024:

  • The report covers 214 countries, estimating that global CO₂ from fuel combustion will increase by 0.8% in 2024, indicating emissions have not yet peaked; global fuel combustion CO₂ increased by 1.3% in 2023 (compared to 2022).
  • Taiwan’s greenhouse gas emissions decreased 4.6% in 2023 (compared to 2022), ranking 26th globally, second in Asia only to Japan, and ahead of South Korea, China, and India.
