As a member of the global community, our country has long adhered to the provisions of the Paris Agreement and committed to enshrining the 2050 net-zero emissions target into law. In line with the spirit of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which requires regular disclosure of climate policies, progress, and achievements by all UN parties, we ensure transparency and accountability in our climate actions.

  • 1. National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report

To actively demonstrate Taiwan's efforts and determination to follow conventions, the government has followed regulations put forth in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol, responding to various sectors' demand to understand Taiwan's greenhouse gas emission and absorption status and trend. According to the 2006 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, the "Republic of China National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report" is updated every year as an active disclosure of Taiwan's national greenhouse gas emission and removal amounts since 1990, showing Taiwan's greenhouse gas emission trends.

  • 2. Greenhouse Gas National Communication

Taiwan has submitted the 2002 and 2011 National Communication and published the "2018 Republic of China Greenhouse Gas National Communication" according to the "Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act" to fulfill the task of publishing a national communication every three years and create specifications and structures for national communications. The "2021 Republic of China Greenhouse Gas National Communication" includes eight chapters: "National Conditions and Basic Environment Information," "Statistics and Trend Analysis of Greenhouse Gas Emission and Absorption," "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Policies and Measures," "Greenhouse Gas Emission Prediction," "Impacts of Climate Change and Adaptation Measures," "Climate Change Scientific Research and Observations," "International Collaboration and Exchanges," and "Education, Training, and Communication with the Public." By compiling and publishing the "2021 Republic of China Greenhouse Gas National Communication," not only does Taiwan respond to the Paris Agreement's spirit of transparency in the hopes of showing the world its activeness and performance in responding to the global crisis, Taiwan also thanks various sectors for their long-term concern for and participation in climate actions. In the future, Taiwan will continue contributing to global climate actions.
