Demonstration Sites

The Climate Change Administration (CCA) established the first rain garden at Beitou Elementary School and Beitou Station Plaza in Taipei City between 2019 and 2020, serving as a demonstration facility for climate change adaptation. Subsequently, in collaboration with the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the CCA set up an additional 14 rain gardens from 2021 to 2022. These gardens were located at Kaohsiung City’s Ta-Tung Elemenary School and Chung-Cheng Elementary School; Tainan City’s Gueinan Elementary School; Taichung City’s Dazhi Elementary School and Wurih Junior High School; Chiayi City’s Chung-Wen Elementary School; Taoyuan City’s National Environmental Research Academy, Jhong Fu Elementary School, and Shinjie Elementary School; Hsinchu City’s Nan-Liao Primary School, Yipin Park, Kangle Park, and Xie Zi Pu Park; Hsinchu County’s Beiping Waldorf Experimental School. The Beitou Station Plaza rain garden was decommissioned in 2023, leaving 15 rain gardens across Taiwan, from which on-site data is collected and analyzed for their environmental benefits such as water retention and cooling effects.
